Every crew member is crucial to a successful production. It’s incredible how much has to be done to make it happen. It can be difficult to keep up with the various positions in the crew.
Executive Producer
Some Executive Producers only work at the highest level, where they are primarily focused on fundraising, investor attraction, legal, and marketing. Some prefer to supervise the production on-site. There can be multiple producers, executive or standard.
Line Producer
A Line Producer is the accountant for the entire production team. The Line Producer reports directly to the Production Manager and closely works with them. They are also responsible for daily budget management and supervision. This is done by keeping track of all expenses, such as actor salaries and daily rental fees for equipment and locations. They may also be in charge of the crew.
Production Designer
The Production Designer is responsible for the overall look and feel. To ensure that the final film is cohesive, the Production Designer speaks to everyone involved in making it. They provide guidance about locations, themes and set designs, as well as lighting and props.
Production Assistant
This position is known as “PA”, and it’s a general-purpose role that provides support for the crew. This could mean a walkie-talkie distribution, a quick wardrobe change staging area or a daily coffee run. A Production Assistant is a great way to start a film career.

The Director
The Director is usually hired by the producer and has creative control on the set. The Director is responsible for casting, script changes, shot composition and editing.
Assistant Directors
The Assistant Director is focused on efficiency. They work closely with both the Production Managers and Directors. These roles are responsible for creating schedules, coordinating crew, talent and equipment and often directing scene extras.
The Storyboard Artist
A good storyboard artist is essential, as they are responsible for translating the vision of the director into something visually appealing. Each sketch helps to guide the various departments, from costumes and hair to props, in their design processes.
Prop Master
Prop Masters are responsible for the acquisition, organisation, maintenance, and recording of all props required during production. Props are any item that can be moved easily to create a setting. The Prop Master will bring in a prop maker if a prefabricated one does not exist. This artist uses various machines and materials to create unique props.
Painters / Scenic Artists
The Scenic Artist is responsible for the overall look and feel of a set. This involves treating different surfaces. Paint, texture and special treatments can all be used to create the look and feel of the set.
